Fishes are Friends...Not FOOD!

I was browsing some info about dive diary of the HMS Repulse & HMS Prince of Whales. The battleships that sanked by the Japanese high-level bombers & torpedo fighters in December 1941.

Coincidentally, I discovered an article and I just can't wait to share among of my friends. Especially those that care about our world. It is about to boycott the Government of Pulao because of assisting the Japanese in slaughtering of whales. Hope you could participate to help in this matter by sendind the email to the government of Pulao.

"...While Palau deliberately and methodically promotes itself as an eco-friendly dive destination committed to the protection of marine wildlife including dugongs, dolphins and whales, behind the scenes it colludes with Japan to block the establishment of whale sanctuaries and reverse the ban on commercial whaling.

Such money-driven hypocrisy is unacceptable and cannot and must not be tolerated by the global scuba diving community. Join the diver-led boycott of Palau and make a difference.

This tool really helps in searching a particular blog as it only searches just the "Blog" instead of other non-blogging websites.

Alternatively, you can try the blogger's search engine where only blogs from blogger.com are to be filtered out as result.

Hope this will helps you in searching blogs that you are interested in.  Happy blogging!

Moments in Perhentian Island (停泊岛)

Map of Perhentian Islands

Posted by JuneNee

Now I understand why its called Perhentian Island. As thought that time stops when you step your foot down on the beach ... Its beautiful !!!
It started with exciting sports & challenge to relaxing sunbathing & snorkeling.
The snorkeling trip is a very memorable one in instead.

Swimming together with at least 30 huge bumphead. Feet numbing at the beginning because of the size of the fish.
However, I was amazed on how big fish can be... Then the puffer fish, seen most of it in cartoons and discovery channel but this time, its right in front of my eyes... Amazing...
Then it comes the turtle... it took my breath away.... life long dream to swim with a turtle...
I would say... its really a nature santuary... Help protects it while we still can...

Humphead fish in view
FACT ABOUT HUMPHEAD
Humphead Wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus)
This bulbous-headed reef fish could be straight out of "Finding Nemo." It's usually bright blue, with large lips that are a delicacy fetching hundreds of dollars a plate in East Asia. The wrasse is caught and traded live to be displayed in restaurant tanks for diners to select from; demand has grown steadily in recent years. Because the species is naturally rare and slow to reproduce, its population suffers greatly from excessive capture (source from WWF)

The island's guardian

Perhentian Island Challenge 2005

The Race - A multi-sports challenge that took place in the beautiful Perhentian Island. The race requires participants to swim, kayak, run & tohave fun for the beach fun game. This race is a point system race, the team that obtain the most point will crown the winner.

09th-11th Sept 2005 - We (Kimberly, Jane, Violete, June, FKB, Kevin, Me & others) arrived in K.Terengganu air port in the afternoon. We were soon picked up by the Bubu's resort van to proceed to Kuala Besut jetty, the main gate to Perhentian Island. Supposingly, the ideal air way to travel to Perhentian Island from KL is to land at Kota Bahru airport. Obviously, we took the wrong plane ;)
Along the way, we passby number of villages. Traffic wasn't busy at all, a real country side scenic. The journey took about 1hour 15min, we arrived at the jetty about 3PM. We had drinks while we were waiting for boat transfer to the Bubu Resort.
5pm, we arrived at the Bubu Resort's Long beach. Most of the athletes are there playing beach games. We quickly check in to the room, get changed and start our beach ball too.
As usual, race dinner was served at 7:30pm followed by race briefing by our beloved Mr Chan. The night called off at 10pm as everbody is looking forward for tomorrow's challenge. Before that, my team-mate is Kimberly, an ex-Malaysian female swimmer. She is also a top Malaysian female triathlete! What a good opportunity to team with her ;)

10th Sept 2005 - 7:45am, The race director gather all the athletes at the beach. The race begin with an ocean swim. The distance is approx. 1km. Thw swim course was pretty enjoying as the visibility was superb clear. It was like swimming in an aquarium! Kevin, Nelson & me were swimming together. We enjoy much of the swim course. Along the swim course, we crashed with those un-identify jelly kind of stuff. About 5cm in length, covered with transperant jelly as shield with tiny black dot within it. Just wondering what is about. There were hundred of thounsand of those floating when we approaching the fininshing line. Kim is the fastest swimmer that reaches the fininshing line!
Right after then swim, the sea-kayaking was the 2nd event. Kim & I was inexperience in that. So it was quite a nice experience kayak as we enjoyed scenery while kayaking back to Long Beach. The distance is 3.5km.
After that, we headed for the trail-running, the most grueling event of the race. We started off by a 100m beach run, then run into the jungle behind Bubu Resort. It was a hilly course. After minutes of running, most of the participants were walking up now instead of running wild in the begining stage. Kim & I finished the run as 4th placing in the mixed team category.
The first 3 events are a physical challenge events (swim, kayak & run), the following 3 events are land treasurehunt, water treasurehunt & beach fun games. All the participants are enjoyed with these fun games. This games also gave the opportunity to island visitors to have an in-depth understading of this island as participants required to search around the island for some specific plants & fruits samples, talk with the locals to get some tips and etc.
The race fininshed at 6pm+, overall, the race offers the unlimited excitement as you are racing in one of the most beautiful island in Malaysia to "Discover your Limits".

Detailed Race Info - Perhentian Island Challenge 2005

12th Sept 2005 - Morning, we were switch from racing mode into the holiday mood. The clear blue ocean, windy morning, & shiny sun-shine attracted us sooooo much. We did snorkeling just in front of Bubu resort. As we were in the water for 10mins, a school of giant Humphead fish (approx 30 of them) were swimming below us! like welcoming us to the ocean. The smallest in the group is about 4 feet, largest is 6-7 feet!!! They swim slowly around the coral reef, scrapping the coral. It was so fantastic. I dived in and had a close-up swim with them. It was my best ever snorkleing trip. We also met a turtle resting on top of coral. Me too dive in and swim close to this guy and i manage to sweep over this turtle's shell. I think FKB & June too had an unforgetable moment. Check it out their feel by clicking the link below.

What is Shark? [鲨鱼]

Definition of Shark
A flavorful, low-fat fish that includes varieties such as Leopard, Mako, Spiny Dogfish, & etc.  Shark meat tends to have an ammonia-like smell.  Eventually, it is definately not a wise choice for dining.

Shark's fin.

The main component of the shark that drive the Human hunter of it.  These hunter hunt the shark in an inhuman way by cutting the fins off, while the remain drop back to the sea bed.  These sharks will not die immediately, but to struggle until death.  The situation is like removing all the hands & legs of a human.  What to do with these "Shark Fin"? They consume these fins by processed them as "Shark Fin Soup".  In spite of the fact that these fibers have little flavor or nutritional value, the soup is considered a delicacy, and may sell for more good money in the market.

Why scare of shark?
Most of the reader that first come into mind is <<The Jaws>> where the poster features a great white with it's wide opened mouth with saw-like teeths.  Well, the statistic of shark's attack on human is much much more lower that the cases of being biten by dogs!  According to the International Shark Attack File, these tiny possibility can be reduced by understand how shark attack, what to do when shark is encountered.

Personally, I used to scared of sharks before.  After i reading some info from net & had a real close-up experience with sharks.  I noticed these gender giants are not as scary as you first thought of.  But do take precautions about it as it is also a predator though. Hope these short sentences will drive your thirst to know more about sharks.  Check out the link below about the fact of Sharks.

Run to Orbit - But miss the turn

3rd Sept 2005 - Morning
  • Reported at the Subang Royal Malaysian Air-Force on time for the Astronaut Run.
  • 7:35am - Run started!  Mohd Azam leading the pack after the first corner.  I was still 30-40th placing.  Right after those turnings and heading to the long straight way, I managed to pass thru all the other participants and behind the 1st runner.  From there, I stayed at that position till the end of the race.  I am 2nd overall in the run clocked 15Min 18sec.
  • 9:00am - Received map to Serdang Hospital for medical check-up (exact map recevied) - http://www.i-putra.com.my/minisites/maptoputrajaya.htm

3rd Sept 2005 - Afternoon
  • 12:00pm - On the way to Serdang Hospital from Cheras. (should have adequate time limit to reach there) Most of the people wil be confident enough to reach Serdang Hospital according to the map above.
    • When i pass-ed by UPM, there is no sign-board leading to Serdang Hospital, I stopped by the road-side fruit stall for direction. Unfortunately, he mis-directed me to Seri-Serdang!  Was very very worry as time is already 12:30pm.  I stopped again and ask direction from a Malay motorcyclist.  This time, i got the clear way to it.
    • When i return back to the traffic light junction that i turn-en in towards UPM, I'm confident to be at the hospital on time.
    • A building with word "Hospital Serdang" is in-sight!  It is in my right hand side.  There isn't any sign board directing to the Hospital Serdang when i reached a road branches, so I just drove ahead towards Putrajaya.
    • Shit!!!  i realised i over-shoted the junction!!!  Time was 12:45pm,  I can't find any U-turn point or overhead bridge along the way until i took a huge big round around Putrajaya.  Finally, i got the u-turn and back to the way to the hospital.
  • 1:05pm or so
    • Was very excited as I was late.  I ran from car-park towards the registration counters.
    • Shit!   gate was closed, nobody there!  The guard not allowed me to enter.  Luckily, this kind-hearted guard directed me to the front entrance and went into the auditorium.
    • Yes...  the presentation just started........  I asked around the other candidates what they have done before this..  it was just report the official and get the form to filled-in.  Some of them are still filling in the form while the official is giving some presentation in the auditorium.
  • 1:30pm - show over.
    • I ran down to the official and pleaded sorry because i'm late and all the explainations.
    • The official and a doctor were helpless too. No tolerance given, they just said i'm late.  I was sooooooo said that time. I keep explaining about the situation that i faced, they just said NO.
    • They commented that this is part of the test, I'm not dis-organsied, I should have come 1 night ealier to do the scouting if i dunno the way.   If i'm allowed to register after 1pm, they are breaking the rules.   they even tell me to treat this as a lesson!
    • Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!    What are they talking about?

These things are not a 1 day, week, month or year of program.  it could be once in a lifetime.  Me as a sport man, i will receive the FACT OF FAILURE.  I will get out if my physical fitness or medical does not meet the requirements.  Failed because of the situation above, is totally unacceptable! Please advise me what would you do if you are in my situation.
