Picture from exzooberance.com

Since 26th Dec 2004 Tsunami tragedy, most of the wild animals seem to have escaped the tsunami. No wild animal carcasses have been found. What was happened? It seems that animals have a sixth sense. When danger is about to occur, they tend to head for safe ground. Like the animal migrating from a region to another region for safe.

According to the an article (By Maryann Mott for National Geographic News), before giant waves slammed into Sri Lanka and India coastlines ten days ago, wild and domestic animals seemed to know what was about to happen and fled to safety.

Research indicates that elephants can feel vibrations in the ground over vast distances. This might be one way that they may be able to detect an earthquake or a tsunami long before a human becomes aware of impending disaster. Picture from National Geographic

According to eyewitness accounts, the following events happened:
• Elephants screamed and ran for higher ground.
• Dogs refused to go outdoors.
• Flamingos abandoned their low-lying breeding areas.
• Zoo animals rushed into their shelters and could not be enticed to come back out.

Experts from Sir Lanka’s wildlife agency commented that the animals might able to sense disaster. They could have a sixth sense. They might know when things are happening.

Another news from Yala National Park, Sri Lanka’s biggest wildlife reserve is home to hundreds of wild elephants and leopards, was hit by the tsunami. Yet no dead animals have been found other than two water buffalos that had died.

Although no specific studies have proven that animals have a sixth sense, animals, such as birds have been observed responding in their own way just prior to major disasters.

The giant waves rolled through the Indian Ocean, killing more than 150,000 people in a dozen countries. Did Humans Lose Their Sixth Sense?
